In the Dance

“The only way to make sense out of change is to plunge into it, move with it, and join the dance.”

~Alan Watts

The inspiration for this piece is a photograph that was shared with me by Al Nocktonick, from the Citizen Potawatomi Nation. He has been dancing now for 59 years and has performed all over the U.S. from pow-wows to educational events. The regalia is for the Men’s Fancy dance, a style of dance known for its quick movements and intricate footwork. During our opportunities to talk Al has always been very generous: sharing his life experiences, culture, and above all his love for dancing.  The idea of doing what you love and are called to do even when it is not easy is so important.  This is someone who inspires me to keep pushing forward. He has reminded me to do what I love in life, make time for it, and accept change as it happens.
