Miranda Easton is a surrealist painter based in Northeast Kansas, born in Scottsdale, Arizona and raised in the rural heart of the state she now calls home. Her artistic path started early: by age twelve she was already selling her own work and taking on odd jobs to buy canvases and paint, encouraged by patrons who saw something worth investing in.
Her paintings blend surrealism with close observation, drawing on artists like Salvador Dali, Frida Kahlo, Georgia O'Keeffe, Artemisia Gentileschi, and Thomas Hart Benton. Recurring symbols, trees, hearts, water, twins, run through her work, exploring the bond between nature and humanity and inviting viewers to slow down and look twice.
She studied at the University of Kansas and spent two decades working as a photographer, a parallel career that sharpened her eye even as she kept painting. Largely self-taught, she has built her practice one canvas at a time, through a demanding, sometimes winding path, while raising a family.
Today, Miranda paints from her studio in Northeast Kansas, surrounded by family, animals, and the shifting Flint Hills skies that show up again and again in her work. As she puts it: "Just play the cards you are dealt; at the end of the game, it all goes back in the box anyway."
